Using HSA/FSA Funds to Get the Sleep You Need
What is a HSA (Health Savings Account)?
A Health Savings Account (HSA) is a tax-advantaged savings account that lets you set aside pre-tax money to pay for qualified medical expenses. Some employers even make contributions to their employee’s Health Savings Accounts. By using the untaxed dollars in an HSA to pay for qualified medical expenses, you may be able to lower your out-of-pocket health care costs.
You can only contribute to an HSA only if you have an HSA-eligible plan (sometimes called a High Deductible Health Plan - generally a health plan that only covers preventive services before the deductible is met) but once the funds are in your HSA you can use them to pay for qualified medical expenses at any time - these funds do NOT expire.
What is a FSA (Flexible Spending Account)?
A Flexible Spending Account (FSA) is a special account you can put pre-tax money into and then use to pay for certain out-of-pocket health care costs. Some employers may even make contributions to their employee’s Flexible Spending Accounts.
Unlike an HSA where funds can be used anytime, FSA funds generally have to be used during the plan year and expire if not used by the end of the plan year, making these funds “use them or lose them”.
How can I use my HSA/FSA funds to pay for your packages/programs?
If you have a HSA/FSA debit card, you can use that debit card to pay directly on my site when making your purchase. Let me know that you need an itemized receipt and I will gladly provide that for you. With an HSA, you’ll just need to hold onto the itemized receipt in case you ever get audited. With an FSA, you’ll likely need to upload the itemized receipt for your plan administrator in order to substantiate the charge.
You also have the option with both HSA and FSA to pay out-of-pocket and then submit the itemized receipt for reimbursement through your HSA/FSA administrator.
It’s always best to reach out to your HSA/FSA administrator ahead of time to confirm that they will cover my services, but most will do so under the umbrella of “sleep deprivation treatment”.
